Long-Term Care Ombudsman

Description: Senior Connections, the nonprofit Area Agency on Aging for the Richmond Metropolitan Region, is accepting applications for a part-time (22.5 hours per week) position of Long-Term Care Ombudsman.

Work includes:  investigating complaints, mediating conflicts, and facilitating resolutions; counseling and assisting persons with long term care service needs, questions, and information needs; conducting in-service training for long term care facility staff.

Requirements: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in human services, health care, or Gerontology is required. Prefer 2 years experience in advocacy on behalf of long-term care residents/recipients.

Ability to establish effective working relationships; communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; and prepare and maintain records and reports accurately and timely.  Computer skills in word processing and data management.  Ability to interpret and apply long-term care laws, policies and other regulations.  Knowledge of aging and long-term care issues and the techniques of mediation and conflict resolution.

Must successfully complete the state certification process for Long-Term Care Ombudsman within six months of employment.  Local travel required.

Salary: Range for starting salary is: $22,800.00 to $24,600.00 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
