Advance Care Planning and Dementia/Alzheimers

February 17 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

ETHICS AND ISSUES IN ADVANCE CARE PLANNING: ACP AND DEMENTIA/ALZHEIMER’S

HCV envisions a world where all Virginians have access to quality advance care planning that is honored in the delivery of care. Misconceptions abound about the role of ACP, including a common conflation of ACP with end-of-life planning. What does ACP mean in the context of dementia, mental illness, or birth? What can we learn about person-centered care from those who have long been in the fight for it?

Goals

  • Learn the history and importance of person-centered care to the dementia and Alzheimer’s field and community
  • Examine the role, definition, and significance of advance care planning to the dementia and Alzheimer’s field and community
  • Gain familiarity with diverse perspectives from the dementia and Alzheimer’s field and community concerning advance care planning and person-centered care
  • Exposure to information and tools to support advance care planning practice in the context of the dementia and Alzheimer’s field and community
